The Jersey

The jersey cow is by far the most Popular breed of dairy cow in NZ. The origin of this cow is from the channel islands of the coast of France. The strength of a Jersey cow is noted for its very high butter fat, which is used in all the dairy products eg. cream, butter, cheese …

The jersey cow produces about 600 gallons of milk a year, but the weakness is that the jersey cow is one of the smaller cows. Infact this breed of cow is the smallest breed of all dairy breeds. These cows don’t hold as much volume of milk than other cows.

The Friesian

The friesian is originally from Holland. The colour is black and white in varieties of patterns. They are the heaviest of all the dairy breed and at maturity weigh about 1000 pounds or 453.592 . The friesian is noted for their heavy milk production (Volume of milk). A good friesian will produce 1000 gallons of milk, but in many cases have a very low butter fat test. This is the weakness of the friesian cow.

The Ayrshire

The Ayrshire,  this cow originated from Scotland but some people are Debating about that and think it might come for holland. The color is red and White. One Ayrshire cow avengers on 800

gallons of milk a year. They have become more and more popular

In town supply owing to the fact that the milk contains a high proportion of solids to fat content.
